What is a Private Prescription ?
A doctor may issue two types of prescription, an NHS prescription or a Private Prescription. When a doctor issues an NHS prescription you may have it filled at any registered pharmacy. The charges you pay depend on your status rather than the value of the medication being supplied to you. A private prescription may be dispensed at any pharmacy subject to the prescription meeting the necessary legal requirements. The amount you pay is dependent on the value of the items being dispensed.
